Moves with Mishfish

Moves with Mishfish is a pop-up class series that I have been developing and hosting over the past year: some talking, a warm-up, some improvisational exercises, and a little dance phrase. In these spaces, I encourage a human-first approach to dance. I am very interested in authentic storytelling, and way less interested in whether people can learn the steps exactly right. At the core of these classes is community — I strive to build a safe environment in which dancers of all levels can reconnect with their bodies, meet new people, and challenge themselves in order to continue learning.

For a long time, I wasn’t sure whether I would be capable of creating my own art. I shied away from choreography for far too long, until I finally decided that it was time for me to stop being afraid of my own art. Since then, I have hosted several pop-up classes in NYC and look forward to hosting many more. Recently, I also had the opportunity to lead a class at Santa Clara University. I look forward to expanding this little community that I have been building — I hope to bring Moves with Mishfish to communities across the nation and beyond.
